I'm happy that they added so many improvements, and didn't just make another software DX7. I don't envision all of the bass music and EDM guys switching to DX7 V, but DX7 V can make those kinds of sounds too. It has its own voice and charm that are popular in electronic music. FM8 doesn't very much sound like a Yamaha FM synth. It can load SysEx files, but that feature is disabled in the demo, so I'll have to buy it to compare further.Īs far as FM8 goes. It has a bunch of modulation routing and options that didn't exist in the DX7, and it has note and parameter sequencing. It has some built in effects and features like unison with voice detune and oscillator sync that take it beyond what other FM vsts can do. The biggest improvement is that it has all of the TX81Z wave forms, OPL2 and OP元 waveforms, and a handful of basic analog synth waveforms like saw, square, triangle, etc similar to what FM8 has. It's probably the best DX7 emulation vst currently available.įrom what I could tell by the stock patches, of which the first two DX7 carts come pre-loaded, it's at least as accurate as Dexed, but has a much much much better interface, additional wave forms, more envelope options, and a few other improvements from the original DX7.
